The Confusion Over the Spirit

Galatians 3:1-5

Tonight I want to speak with you concerning the confusion over the Holy Spirit. There certainly is a lot of misinformation being propagated concerning the ministry of the Holy Spirit today. Unfortunately, many Bible-believing Christians are remaining silent on the issues, either because of the fear of offending someone, or because they simply do not know the Scriptures well enough to take a stand. Either reason is unacceptable.

I. Consider the problem of the Galatians.

II. Confusion About the Holy Spirit.

III. Results of the Confusion.

IV. The Final Authority for Problem Solving.

Our counselor must be God. The great tragedy of believers today is that their lives are filled with sin and with weakness. Solutions to personal, family, and church problems are found in God's counsel ministered through the Spirit of God. When we seek counsel it must be from those who acknowledge that it is only through the power of the Holy Spirit and through the application of the principles of God's Word that the solutions will come.

The Galatians had tried to perfect in the flesh what had begun in the Spirit, but it was a faulty solution then and it is a faulty solution now. God told Zerubbabel, "...Not by might, nor by power, but my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." cf Zech. 4:6

Have you neglected to rely upon the Holy Spirit for your strength to serve the Lord? We can put on a good show in the flesh, but it will not accomplish much and will not glorify God. Have you been bewitched? We must yield ourselves unto the Spirit of God and allow Him to fill and empower us to do the work that God has called us to do.
